Sand Mine (Fragment)
These works stem from my exploration into the uncanny relationship between landscapes, memory, and dream. The backdrop of many of my memories are shifting, half-imagined landscapes, only loosely based on reality. In Sand Mine (Fragment) I and II I have contrasted layers of screen-printing and aquatint etching to piece together a version of a remembered landscape: the sheer, sandy cliffs and shallow pools on a childhood friend’s farm, which doubled as the perfect place for unsupervised fun. These pieces are shaped by my wider investigation into the tension between the private, internal world and the pointedly external act of expressing this visually to the public.
