A Game of Hunters and Hunted (Book)
This work stems from a larger exploration of my own memories of childhood. Growing up in the Great Southern, summer nights meant games of hide and seek. We would creep through the bush or wait with bated breath for the torch beam to expose us. In either role as the Hunter or the Hunted, a thrill would surround the process of donning a character for the purpose of a game. At these times the distinction between myself, and the things I that I feared in the darkness would blur.
The artist book element of this project aims to capture these elements of naïve play, peppered with darker imagery as the book continues. The work is created using one illustrative etching which has been collaged and recombined with elements of monoprinting and drypoint. The form of the pop-up book speaks of childhood and play and extends images beyond their two-dimensional boundaries. Much of my practice revolves around pushing print as a medium to allow viewers to step inside a memory and make it their own.
