Between the Distance
Between the Distance is a new media installation work which explores the disorienting mechanisms of dreams. When recalling the geography of a dreamscape, general rules of reality tend to be replaced by a fluctuating jumble of spaces, layered on top of each other. I am intrigued by the tension that arises in taking the experiences of these internal worlds and translating them physically through material play.
Through this work I have attempted to translate the highly subjective landscapes of my own mind into a shared reality. Due to the nature of internal world, gaps and mistranslations will always exist. It is these tensions that are most the interesting to investigate. There is an odd joy in the struggle of recreating a place across the boundaries of the imaginary and the physical. Likewise, I hope there is an odd joy to be found in experiencing the ambiguity of the space that is created from them.
